The final list for the MK Open has been confirmed. With 42 players in the open. The highest ranked player in the field is Italy’s Saverio Bari coming in the FISTF rankings at number 10. The World number 1 Eric Verhagen was in the mix but has recently pulled out. But despite the ammont of drops there is still alot of people still playing in the tornament on Saturday.
The Veteran category has only 18 players but the field looks tough with Spain’s Juan Carlos Granados, ranked in at number 6, playing in the tournament with most of the players ranking in the top 100.
The Under 15’s category looks a little thin on the ground but the competition looks tough with England’s Sam Curtis ,once the world number 1 Under 15, making a comeback to the game. The current world number 3 Björn Kegenbein of Germany is playing along with fellow team player Marcel Kwiatkowski, who is ranked at number 7 in the world. Brandon Lavender joins the mix with Dimitris Stemitsiotis as well as new players Toby Moore, Alex Miller and Gavin Manning representing England. This will be the category to watch.
A special mention should be made as Reza Bodiat of South Africa will be playing in the tournament and will be the furthest player to travel to the tournament with an approx. total of 5911 Miles. He wins the Fulltime Furthest Travelled Player Award.
Although it is a smaller turnout than last year it will still prove to be an interesting and exciting tournament with a total of 68 players representing 14 nations around the world. For those who don’t know the format it will be as followed:
Open
8 groups of 5, top 2 qualifying to the last sixteen of the Open, 3rd places qualifying to the Beggs Trophy, 4th places qualifying to the Lauder Plate, 5th places qualifying to the Chappell Challenger
Vets
2 groups of 5, 2 groups of 4, top 2 qualifying to the quarter-finals, 3rd and 4th places qualifying to the Vets Plate, 2 5th places qualify for the Chappell Challenger.
Under 15’s
2 groups of 4, top 2 qualify to the semis. 3rd and 4th to the plate.
All games are refereed and all players once knocked out should not leave the tournament until they know that they are definately not refereeing in the next round please.
So I will look forward to seing you all there bright and early at 9:00am. Watch out as I will be taking your money.
